# Removing Configuration

> Remove ScaleMax-managed client configuration and credentials without deleting unrelated settings.

Remove only the stored ScaleMax API key:

**macOS / Linux**

```bash
scalemax logout
```

**Windows PowerShell**

```powershell
scalemax.cmd logout
```

Remove ScaleMax-generated client configuration and restore backups where available:

**macOS / Linux**

```bash
scalemax remove
```

**Windows PowerShell**

```powershell
scalemax.cmd remove
```
